GOAL      OBJECTIVES    SIGNIFICANCE

Goal

Globally it is recognized that the empowerment of women and girls is a significant factor in economic prosperity, environmental sustainability and social justice. The cumulative effect of personal, material, economic and cultural constraints on women and girls significantly reduce the capacity of individuals, communities, businesses and other institutions to achieve social, economic and environmental advances. We aim to advance knowledge of gender issues to empower women and girls.

Key Objectives

  • To empower women and girls by building our understanding of critical gender issues;

  • To address the constraints and barriers to women’s empowerment by building knowledge of significant gender factors;

  • To develop  knowledge on gender mainstreaming, education and other practices that build the capacity of women and girls;

  • To advance our knowledge of the constraints and barriers to gender equality and women’s empowerment by compiling a bank of best practice examples, policies and processes;

  • To enhance, strengthen and build our collaborations with individuals and organisations that value gender equality and women’s empowerment;

  • To undertake research with collaborating partners to enhance understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment;

  • To critically examine policies and practices in Australia and elsewhere [KW1] that constrain women and girls in order to formulate recommendations to promote greater gender equality and women’s empowerment;

  • To undertake analyses of institutions, corporations and other organisations to improve their gender equality practices and thereby build efficiencies;

  • To provide gender training and gender equality capability to organisations;

  • To build understanding of effective ways for Australia to advance women’s empowerment and gender equality in a global context.
